ABOUT US
Who We Are:
Maureen Blando (Old Mountain View): I enjoy our trails, bike lanes, and majestic redwood trees on a daily basis. My interest in being a member of Livable Mountain View is to work with like-minded people to preserve the natural and historical character of Mountain View. We discuss issues with the Mountain View City Council and work with developers to suggest improvements which will continue Mountain View’s character forward. I would encourage you to join us. Whether you want to be active in setting the agenda, or if you simply want to stay informed and virtually “sign” letters to City Council on issues which you agree on, your voice is important.
Robert Cox (Old Mountain View): As one of the founders of Livable Mountain View, I was concerned about how our downtown historic downtown retail district might be replaced by faceless office buildings with no public, ground floor uses. Since our first victory, which preserved the Tied House and Weilheimer House in place on Villa Street, I have helped expand Livable Mountain View’s advocacy to balancing housing production and preserving neighborhood character, lobbying for preservation of our heritage trees, providing parks and open space, and dealing with the effect of climate changes.
Leslie Friedman (Shoreline West): In 2021, I learned about Heritage Trees and Livable Mountain View. Walking in the neighborhood, I saw the sign that the city would kill the giant redwood tree behind the sign, but there could be an appeal for the tree. I became one of the group of four working toward the tree’s hearing. Against all odds, the tree won! I feel lucky to be part of Livable Mountain View. I learned how the city works, especially from Robert Cox and Louise Katz, our leaders. It is a pleasure to be among the Livables, these bright individuals who care about Mountain View and helped me appeal for the life of another redwood in 2024. The tree won!
Mary Hodder (Old Mountain View): I want Mountain View to stay real, and be its own place. Our best buildings are being replaced with Soulless “anywhere” corporate campus dead zones downtown. I’m a technologist, usability engineer, founder of startups. And I fly drones!
Jerry Steach (Old Mountain View): I’m part of Livable Mountain View because, having traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad, I’ve come to recognize the social and commercial importance of cities preserving their precious historic resources and integrating them into their city centers.
Joyce Yin (Cuesta Park): As an architect and urban designer, I see a lot of ways for Mountain View to continue as vibrant community. I’d love to see the city, especially its downtown, realize its potential through a balance of planned growth and its existing resources.
